The other day I visited our local shopping mall just to check it out. I arrived about 10:00am on a Sunday morning. In the past, I would have needed to park at the far end of the lot due to so many cars and there would always be shoppers waiting outside the main door for the big moment when the mall would be open. Not this time. I parked a 1 minute walk from the main door. I had a lot of choices. Inside it was quiet … I had somehow entered on the second floor and then remembered that I’ve made that exact same mistake every time I visited this mall. Slow learner !

All the same familiar things are still there… just hardly any humans (yet). I walked thru mall sections and took a few videos and photos. I was “scouting” the mall to remember what they were like. It was awesome. I loved every minute of it, even though it hit me with a little nostalgic feeling every now and then. By 11:30am I had made my way to the Food Court. Finally … humans !! And lots of them. Kids, Teens, Parents… at the mall running and screaming and eating as they are supposed to do. The pizza place explained to me that it’s busiest about noon. After eating way too much pizza, I journeyed away from the food court. (the “Orange Julius” was still closed — dang it those are good!) The loud cheerful carnival-like atmosphere and the general feeling that this was a vibrant, thriving business quickly faded away as I re-entered the empty halls with nobody home except a few lonely salespeople standing outside their shops chatting it up with one another. I saw no bags with any merchandise leaving along with customers to the parking lot. Either way…. it was a welcome break from the house and I have to admit I LOVED IT ! There’s just something intangible and wonderful about shopping malls which I will never forget. I guess you’d have to be there. What about you? Here’s brief video of my pizza run.
